Safety Briefing

All drivers must listen to and understand a thorough safety briefing before going out on track. Drivers who do not listen will not be allowed to participate. Time will be provided for any questions. A quiz will be given at the end of the briefing for junior drivers. A second summary briefing is given by the marshals once drivers are down on the track. This reiterates the lights and flags and explains the workings of the karts. If you have not karted before please let us know so that we can carry out a throttle and brake test with you in the pitlane before you venture out on track.

Here is a summary of our safety briefing:

Karting is a motorsport and can be dangerous. You must listen and understand this safety briefing before going out on track. If you do not understand please ask.

The only way we can communicate with you whilst you are out on the track is through lights and flags.

We primarily use a traffic light system at Formula Fast. There are 10 sets of traffic lights around the circuit and you MUST pay attention to them.

A YELLOW light means you MUST SLOW DOWN to walking pace, remain in single file and DO NOT overtake. Any driver overtaking on a yellow light will be disqualified. Marshals are out on the track and they need to be kept safe.

A RED light means you MUST come to a safe STEADY STOP and must remain stopped until the lights turn green. Marshals will be out on the track and they need to be kept safe. Please do not brake violently hard when you see the red light. This can cause you to spin off yourself or other drivers may drive in to the back of you.

GREEN lights mean GO. Enjoy yourselves, get some good racing in but make sure this is done safely and responsibly.

A half black, half white flag, divided diagonally, is a WARNING FLAG. We will wave this at you if you are driving dangerously or aggressively. You get one chance to improve your driving. If you do not then you will be BLACK FLAGGED.

A BLACK FLAG means you MUST come in to the pits. You are DISQUALIFIED.

We have a shut down system and will use it if necessary. We may also slow your kart if you are driving dangerously or if you slide the kart too much as this can cause accidents especially if you spin.

A BLUE FLAG will be shown to you if you are a back marker. This means you must let quicker drivers through safely. If you do not then your kart may be slowed or you may be black flagged for the safety of other drivers and yourself.

The chequered flag is waved at the end of the session. You do one more slow lap and then proceed into the pits.

Drivers must remain in their karts at all times. If you need help raise both arms into the air and a marshal will come to assist you. Arms and legs must remain in the kart at all times.

Karting is strictly a NON-CONTACT sport. Any person driving into other karters or into the barriers intentionally will be disqualified and BANNED from the track.

If you are driving in a private party with juniors please respect that they may be a lot smaller and less experienced than you. Any adult driving aggressively in a party with juniors will be disqualified and BANNED from the track.

We want our drivers to be SAFE. Any driver whom we feel is a threat to safety will be BANNED from the track.

If we feel your level of experience is a mismatch with the others in a session and this is causing a safety risk we may remove you from the session by black flag to ensure your safety and that of the others in the session.

We take your safety seriously and have invested in good quality safety equipment at Formula Fast. In return we ask that you look after our safety equipment while using it: Any damage caused by misuse will be charged for. Crash helmets must not be put down on surfaces upside down as this can damage them and you will be charged for a replacement.

Any spectator whom we feel is a threat to safety will be BANNED from the premises.

No alcohol can be consumed before driving. We have a licensed bar but this is strictly for after karting. Any driver who objects to this rule will be BANNED from the premises.

All drivers must sign a disclaimer before karting stating that they have listened to and understood a safety briefing.

All drivers are on CCTV whilst having the safety briefing. Balaclavas and helmets cannot be worn during the briefing.
